How it Works
The holidays are just around the corner, and we want the greater Niles area to be fun and festive when Santa Claus comes to town. As you deck the halls these next few weeks, the City is once again offering an incentive to make our neighborhoods extra holly and jolly this year. You guessed it — The Greater Niles Holiday Sights & Lights Decorating Contest has returned, and we're looking for unique, fun, and creative decoration entries. Use your existing decorations, or get crafty with art supplies. Or use both existing pieces and art supplies to create your decoration. Just follow these few rules:
Entry must be holiday- or winter-themed and will be approved or denied based on the following criteria.
All participating homes must be in the 49120 zip code.
Decorations may include (but are not limited to):
- window displays (inside or outside)
- front porch displays
- entrance ways (including apartments)
- fireplace settings yard displays
We reserve the right to reject any submission. If your entry is questionable, or falls into a gray area concerning the rules, we advise choosing a different option for your entry. See the official rules here.Entries will be accepted Friday, November 24 through Friday, December 8.
Voting will take place Monday, December 11 through Wednesday, December 20.
Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 vote earners.
Anyone can vote, but voting is limited to one vote per person for the duration of the contest.
We ask that voters choose their favorite entries based on the following criteria:
- Creativity
- Adherence to topic
- Use of materials or items
- Attention to detail
- Cleverness
Prizes will be available for pick up at City Hall, and the instructions will be sent to the winners.
