EYSD Home Education End of Year Evaluation Submissions

EYSD Home Education End of Year Evaluation Submissions

Throughout the school year, the supervisor must maintain a portfolio of student work.  The portfolio must be evaluated at the end of each year by:

  • Licensed clinical psychologist;

  • School psychologist;

  • Pennsylvania certified teacher with two (2) years grading experience at the level they evaluate (K-6 and/or 7-12);

  • Nonpublic school teacher or administrator with two (2) years PA teaching experience within the last ten (10) years at the level they evaluate (K-6 and/or 7-12);

  • Persons with other qualifications, with the prior consent of the Superintendent of the District of residence (This is completely at the discretion of the Superintendent. Some examples of requests include college professors, teachers certified in other states, experienced homeschool parents/guardians, professional curriculum providers, and teachers in "umbrella schools.").

Achievement tests aid in determining whether or not an appropriate education is occurring. The law requires that home education students take the statewide tests or other authorized tests in grades 3, 5, and 8.

 The evaluation is arranged by the supervisor.  If not previously provided, evidence of the evaluator’s certification must be submitted along with the evaluation.

At the conclusion of each educational year, the home education supervisor must submit a written evaluation of the home education program to the Superintendent of Schools in the student’s district of residence no later than June 30th for the closing school year.  (For an example and template of an evaluation form, (click here)
