Packed with dark chocolate, figs, and hazelnuts, Panforte Nero is Margherita's spicier cousin. The name Panforte (“strong bread”) refers to the many spices, including black pepper, cloves, coriander, ginger and nutmeg, that give this confection its strong flavor. Our recipe uses two types of Valhrona chocolate and chestnut honey for maximum richness. Panforte was sold by apothecaries and monasteries in 13th century Tuscany, and was carried by the crusaders as trail food. Delicious as a hearty breakfast, panforte also pairs well with espresso, dessert wine, or a cheese plate. Wrapped in tissue paper and a bow; includes a card with historical details. Perfect for giving! Stores for up to 2 months. (5 inches; 250g).
